Re “Victims Behind the Scandal,” March 28:
So Whitewater independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr and his team have been ruthlessly abusing their investigative powers in Arkansas and have already committed a reversible error in the multimillion-dollar show trial now underway by deceptively intimidating a defense witness into taking the 5th. Big surprise!
Partisan Republican Starr is a tobacco industry consigliere who can be expected to do just about anything to rid his clients of their enemy, President Clinton.
After clamorously leading the charge for the unprecedented inquisitional scrutiny of a sitting president’s pre-presidential life, the scandalmongering media, including The Times, remain all but mum about Starr’s many flagrant conflicts of interest.

* As politicians and the media fight to find another angle to degrade the president of the U.S., people like Sarah Hawkins get lost in that fight. [Hawkins, who maintained her innocence and refused a plea bargain, was cleared of wrongdoing by Starr.] Thank you, Ms. Hawkins, for fighting for what is right and what is the truth and not giving in to Gestapo tactics.
