Costa Mesa 8, Laguna Beach 5--Kim Daniels and Julie Collett each scored three runs and had three hits for Costa Mesa (5-7, 1-0) in the league opener.
In the Freeway League:
Sonora 2, Sunny Hills 1--Georgeanne Wisen (9-3) pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts for visiting Sonora (10-5-1, 1-0). Sonora broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth when Jennifer Brown had an infield single, went to second on a ground out, and scored on a single to center by Natalie Garcia.
La Habra 5, Buena Park 0 (3, forfeit)--The game was called after three innings and umpires awarded La Habra (8-5, 1-0) a forfeit victory after ejecting Buena Park’s coach following a dispute.
Troy 3, Fullerton 1--Katie Smithson pitched a one-hitter as Troy (8-5, 1-0) won its Freeway League opener. Sarah Greenwood drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a pinch-hit single. The Warriors scored three runs in the inning.
In the Olympic League:
Calvary Chapel 3, Brethren Christian 2 (10)--Christy Ring singled in the winning run for host Calvary Chapel (10-4, 1-0).
In the Pacific Coast League:
University 7, Estancia 0--Alysia Atchley pitched a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts for University (5-11, 1-0). Atchley was also four for four with three RBIs.
In the Sea View League:
El Toro 5, Newport Harbor 0--El Toro’s Suzanne Guy pitched her second no-hitter, striking out 11 and allowing only a fifth-inning walk. Ann Skidmore had three hits and Stephanie Santoro had three RBIs for the Chargers (9-7, 1-0).
Irvine 2, Santa Margarita 1--Colleen Young pitched a three-hitter and recorded five strikeouts for Santa Margarita (9-2-1, 1-0). The ninth-ranked Vaqueros scored both runs on errors by Santa Margarita’s catcher.
Woodbridge 3, Corona del Mar 0--Desiree Stickelmaier and Chrissy Robitaille combined on a one-hitter for fourth-ranked Woodbridge (11-3, 1-0).
In the South Coast League:
San Clemente 2, Mission Viejo 0--Center fielder Jamie Stark, who missed eight games because of a leg injury, returned for host San Clemente (10-3, 1-0) and had three hits.
In the Sunset League:
Huntington Beach 4, Esperanza 0--Jessica Walker had three hits and two RBIs and Heather Hibben pitched a one-hitter for host Huntington Beach (9-5, 1-0).
In the Canyon tournament
Mater Dei 9, La Sierra 1 (6, mercy)--Kelsy Kollen went four for four with three runs scored and Marissa Young had three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the sixth, for Mater Dei (14-1), which will play El Modena, a 4-2 winner over Corona Centennial.
Young pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Lisa Tully hit a three-run homer in a 6-0 victory over Garden Grove in the quarterfinals.
In other tournament games:
El Modena 2, Los Alamitos 1--Kim Bentley’s sacrifice fly in the seventh won the game for El Modena (10-5). Courtney Heil pitched a one-hitter for the Vanguards.
Rosary 3, El Dorado 2 (8)--Theresa Cronin had the game-winning single for Rosary in the bottom of the eighth inning. Teammate Jamie Fruth hit a two-run double to tie the score for Rosary in the seventh inning.
