Fire Damages Gym; Arson Is Suspected

GLENDALE — A fire blamed on arson caused an estimated $41,000 damage to a girls’ gymnasium at Hoover High School, fire officials said Thursday.
Firefighters were dispatched to the campus at 651 Glenwood Road at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday after a passerby saw smoke coming from the gym.
Investigators would not comment in detail on how the blaze started, but said wrestling mats had apparently been set on fire. There have been no arrests.
Hoover High was the site of an arson that caused more than $1 million in damage to a classroom building in November.
