Vista Gets the Drop on Kennedy, 8-1

Vista High took advantage of four Kennedy errors in the first two innings to build an eight-run cushion and cruise to an 8-1 victory over the Golden Cougars in pool play of the Bishop Gorman baseball tournament in Las Vegas.

The four errors led to seven unearned runs for Vista, which upset Kennedy (12-2), the second-ranked team in The Times’ regional pool.

Earlier, Josh Miranda and Fernando Centeno each drove in three runs for Kennedy in a 14-4 victory over Las Vegas Durango.

North Hollywood 7, Mountain View (Utah) 3--The Huskies (9-8) won their fifth consecutive game as Cesar Soto went 4 1/3 innings and struck out nine in the Bishop Gorman tournament.

Highland 4, Brighton (Utah) 3--Eric Torrez hit a two-run home run and a run-scoring double for the Bulldogs (5-8) in the Bishop Gorman tournament.

Calabasas 4, Moorpark 1--Tanner Trosper struck out 10 for the Coyotes (8-1-2, 6-0-1) in a Frontier League game.

St. Bonaventure 3, Bishop Diego 1--Danny Harrison pitched a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts and drove in the winning run in a Tri-Valley League game.

Simi Valley 7, Agoura 1--David Krewson hit a three-run double in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie for the Pioneers (4-5-1, 1-5) in a Marmonte League game.

Hart 2, Canyon 0--Brian Hernandez struck out six and gave up one hit in three innings of relief for the Indians (13-4, 6-0) in a Foothill League game.

GIRLS’ SOFTBALL

Saugus 6, Valencia 3--Jamie Gillies (8-1), who pitched a two-hitter for the Centurions (11-2, 2-0) in the Foothill League game at Valencia, still has not allowed an earned run this season.

Freshman Bonnie Looney hit a three-run home run for the Vikings (4-12, 1-1).

Gillies and Nicole Giordano homered for Saugus.

Crescenta Valley 13, Muir 0--Danielle Ferreira (11-2) pitched a perfect game, striking out 11 in a Pacific League game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.

Thousand Oaks 4, St. Cloud (Fla.) 0--Jennifer Sharron pitched her third perfect game of the season, striking out 12 in a first-round game of the Kissimmee tournament in Florida.

Hart 13, Canyon 0--Mary Colleran and Stacy Eastman combined on a no-hitter and the Indians scored all their runs in the second inning of the Foothill League game.
