MTA Backs Subway, Light Rail for Valley : Transit Alternatives
- Share via
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has released a new study detailing the costs of 10 alternatives for transporting commuters across the Valley at the start of the next millennium. The MTA board must make a final choice of route and technology by December. Cost-effectiveness figures in the latest report make a 17-mile subway across the Valley unlikely. Among the toughest choices left: the type of subway, and the route, for a line from North Hollywood to the San Diego Freeway. The Burbank-Chandler route is the most thoroughly studied, but the Oxnard route is considered slightly less costly and is still in contention.
