4 Suspects Arrested After Holdup at Store, Standoff With Police

From Associated Press

Gunmen invaded a Home Depot and pistol-whipped the manager Monday before police arrived and, after a nearly three-hour siege, arrested the last of four intruders, authorities said.

Ten employees of the store hid in a vault, talking to police by telephone while a SWAT team took positions outside.

Three workers, including the store manager, complained of minor injuries. Their names were not disclosed.

The drama began just before 5 a.m.

People arriving for work were walking up to the front entrance and saw the manager being pistol-whipped, authorities said. The workers ran across the parking lot to a gas station and called police.

Arriving officers arrested one man outside the store.

A SWAT team surrounded the store, and nearby streets were blocked. Officers from Ontario, Montclair and the California Highway Patrol assisted.

By 7:30 a.m., the fourth man was arrested and an unspecified amount of money was recovered.

Police then told employees it was safe to come out.

The four men weren’t cooperating and investigators were trying to use fingerprints to identify them, authorities said.
