American Home Products to Sell Food Unit: The diversified health care and consumer goods company said it is seeking a buyer for its food business, which includes Jiffy Pop popcorn and Chef Boyardee. The sale is aimed at reducing corporate debt and sharpening American Home Products Corp.’s focus on its prescription drugs and consumer health-care divisions. The food unit could fetch as much as twice its 1995 sales of $818.9 million, analysts said. Wall Street reacted favorably, sending its stock up $2.625 to $53.375 on the New York Stock Exchange. The Madison, N.J.-based company’s over-the-counter products include the pain reliever Advil and Chap Stik lip balm.
