. . . Orange County Sheriff Brad Gates told county supervisors that he needed space for 600 additional beds for prisoners by year’s end to comply with a federal court order to reduce overcrowding at the Central Jail in Santa Ana.
Without the beds, Gates said, “we’ll probably be turning felons back into the community.”
