Serbs Attack Journalists, U.N. Truck

From Times Wire Services

As Bosnian Serb police stood by, fellow Serbs on Thursday attacked a U.N. police truck and journalists who were accompanying Muslims visiting former homes and relatives’ graves.

Two shots were fired by one Serb, but no one was hit in this town about 50 miles north of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The four attackers smashed a Bosnian television camera and stomped on an Associated Press camera and three lenses. One man jumped on the United Nations pickup truck and shattered the windshield with his boot.

AP photographer Vadim Ghirda suffered cuts on his face and bruises on his hands and legs.

The leader of the crowd destroyed all film, videotape and audiotape of the clash before allowing the Muslims and others to leave.

Helicopters from the NATO-led peace force appeared and accompanied the group back to government-held territory.
