O’Brien, who saves her best performances for important events, again dominated the sprints at the Southern Section finals. For the third consecutive year, O’Brien swept the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. She did it in Division II as a sophomore and Division I the last two years. Friday in the 50, she finished in 23.66 seconds, more than one second ahead of the runner-up. She won the 100 in 51.58. “She’s won every close race she’s ever been in,” Irvine Coach Scott Hinman said.
