‘Jump Houses’ OKd for Use in City Park

“Jump houses,” the large, inflatable play equipment that attracts youngsters, are now OK in Central Park, the City Council has determined.

Ron Kenny, city director of recreation services, told the council in a memo that city policy had not allowed the inflatable devices, usually rented for parties and carnivals, to be used in the city park.

He said that each year, the city’s Recreation and Community Services Department receives many phone calls from parents asking if the big toys could be rented for birthday parties to be held in Central Park.

Kenny said several other Orange County cities allow rentals of “jump houses” in their parks.

The council agreed to allow the inflatables but restricted their use to parties that include city permits for the park’s Plaza Pavilion or Bicentennial Gazebo. The commercial firm renting “jump houses” also must have a minimum $1 million in liability insurance, the council said.
