‘Holy Family’

* It is Los Angeles’ good fortune to have not one but two paintings by Fra Bartolommeo. While we are all eagerly waiting for the unveiling of the masterpiece recently acquired by the J. Paul Getty Museum (May 11), Angelenos should be reminded that another painting by the rare artist has been hanging for more than 10 years at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
The serene “Holy Family” was one of the first paintings offered to the Los Angeles public by the Ahmanson Foundation. It is, however, not on view in our museum at the present time, having been lent until the end of July to the Fra Bartolommeo retrospective exhibition at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence.
