Although the city of Newport Beach claims that more than 40% of all arrests made in the city last year involved drinking, I wonder on what part of the peninsula they’re making the arrests (“In Summer, Trouble Comes in Cans, Bottles,” May 20). I live in Cannery Village, a commercial area on the Balboa Peninsula at the midpoint between three major bars.
After 11 p.m., I rarely see a police officer.
If they wanted to, they could arrest 90% of the people on the street. They are loud and obviously drunk and they all eventually get behind the wheel of a car.
