Golf Tourney to Aid Chamber and Charity

The Calabasas Chamber of Commerce’s 18th annual golf tournament will see a few changes this year. It picks up a corporate sponsor and, for the first time, the event will benefit a charity as well as the chamber itself.

Calabasas-based Breath Asure Inc. will sponsor the 1996 Charity and Celebrity Golf Classic, which begins at 1 p.m. Monday, with proceeds going to the chamber. A silent auction to be held during an after-game barbecue dinner will benefit the Make a Wish Foundation, said first-time tournament chairman Larry Negrin.

Registration for the tournament has been brisk, Negrin said, and by Wednesday was at 130 players with a 144-player capacity.

“I was hoping to get 100 people to play,” Negrin said, “but now it looks like we’ll max it out at 144 golfers.”

Actor George Kennedy, Breath Asure’s spokesman, will host the event at Calabasas Country Club, 4515 Park Entrada.

The tournament also will have a raffle, and the hole-in-one winner will receive a two-year lease for a car from Vista Ford in Woodland Hills.

The registration fee of $150 per golfer or $400 per foursome includes lunch, soft drinks, tee prizes and a Texas-style barbecue beginning about 6 p.m.

For $25, non-golfers may attend the barbecue and live auction in the evening. The auction will feature celebrity and sports memorabilia, including an autographed baseball from newly retired Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda, Negrin said. To register, call Negrin at (818) 592-0106.
