Serb Party Fined for Election Violations

Election monitors fined the ruling Bosnian Serb party for advocating the breakup of Bosnia--a violation of election rules just four days before Bosnia’s crucial vote. The $50,000 penalty was meant to punish Serbs for displaying posters of indicted wartime leader Radovan Karadzic, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe said. Cracking down before Saturday’s elections, the OSCE warned the Serbian Democratic Party that it would remove the party’s candidates for the Serbian assembly if the party did not move posters of Karadzic at least 150 feet from polling stations.
