DANA POINT — A teenager allegedly drinking alcohol while riding his bicycle was struck and injured by two cars as he attempted to retrieve a can of beer that he dropped moments earlier, sheriff’s authorities said Monday.
The 17-year-old, whose name was not released because of his age, was riding on Del Obispo near Village Road about 8:30 p.m. Sunday with a can of beer in one hand and “carrying the remnants of a six-pack in the other,” Sheriff’s Department Lt. Richard Paddock said.
“He dropped his beer, made a U-turn to pick it up and was struck by a car,” Paddock said. “Then he was hit by another car.”
The youth suffered major injuries and was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where he was reported in serious condition Monday. Authorities said his blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit of 0.08. Neither the youth nor the drivers has been cited and the investigation is continuing, deputies said.
