Sewage Backups

* Re “Residents Battle City Over Clogs in Sewers,” Sept. 9:
Perhaps the solution to the distressing problem of the Hollywood Hills houses inundated with backed-up sewage is for the neighbors to agree to arrange for a private company to clean out the sewers of growing roots and other matter on a regular basis. The small monthly fee that each household would pay would be minuscule in comparison to the horrendous disasters they face when the sewage does back up.
The city then should grant that neighborhood the right to arrange regular sewage maintenance at the homeowners’ expense. Oftentimes, the private sector is the only solution and is often cheaper and more efficient.
