CYPRESS — A 16-year-old passenger died early Wednesday after a speeding truck driver fleeing another accident crashed into her car from behind, police said.
Andrea Claymore of Carson was in a car driven by her mother, Augustine Claymore, 43, near Moody Street and Lincoln Avenue when the truck hit them, Police Lt. John Schaefer said.
The crash, which occurred about 6:15 a.m., pushed them into another car, and firefighters had to cut the top off their car to rescue the mother and daughter. Andrea Claymore died at the scene.
The driver of the truck, Roger Vern Dornan, 52, of Bellflower, was fleeing from the scene of another accident on Moody Street a few blocks north of Lincoln Avenue, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run driving and vehicular manslaughter.
Augustine Claymore, the driver of the car in front of her and his passenger were taken to La Palma Intercommunity Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
Dornan was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, also with injuries that were not life-threatening, authorities said.
