Newly acquired center Keith Primeau signed a multiyear contract with the Hartford Whalers. The Whalers got the Primeau in the four-player deal Wednesday that sent forward Brendan Shanahan and defenseman Brian Glynn to Detroit for Primeau, defenseman Paul Coffey and a No. 1 draft pick. . . . The New York Islanders, who have scored five goals while going winless in their first three games, signed holdout center Travis Green to a one-year contract. Green was the team’s second leading scorer last season. . . . Chicago Blackhawk goalie Jeff Hackett will be out at least a week with a broken finger suffered Sunday against St. Louis. Hackett, unaware of the injury until after the game, stopped 36 of 37 shots in the 4-1 victory.
