The city of Ventura’s Office of Cultural Affairs awarded JoAnne Duby and Gwendolyn Alley a $2,000 stipend to create new artworks inspired by Ventura and its environs.
Duby, a sculptor, will create a Matilija poppy, a California poppy and a steelhead trout combining alabaster stones, bronze casting and soapstone.
Poet-artist Alley, a fourth-generation Venturan, will write literary works to be combined with visual expressions, which will be performed in conjunction with a public showing of the art titled “Shisholop.”
