Personal Submarine for the Man Who Has Everything

MIAMI — Pete Hoffmann, a Florida yacht broker who caters to the whims of the wealthy, has the latest must-have accessory for the very rich: personal submarines for a mere $500,000.
Hoffman took a tiny research submarine and spent the last two years converting it into the ultimate underwater luxury craft complete with big viewing windows, air conditioning and a CD player.
“It is a labor of love,” he said.
In about a month, the buyer--who insists on anonymity--will have the sub hanging from his 150-foot yacht, which also sports a Hovercraft. The new accessory is 13 feet long, weighs 12,000 pounds and can hum along at 2 mph.
The sub, which seats five comfortably, costs $500,000 plus $300,000 more for the yacht-board equipment to carry and launch it.
