The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly close to keeping center and captain Steve Yzerman for four more years. According to the Detroit Free Press, the two sides are close on a deal that will pay the 31-year-old Yzerman $18 million over the next four years.
The deal could make Yzerman, in his 14th year, a sports rarity--a player who stays with one team for the duration of his career.

Holdout center Alexei Zhamnov reportedly has agreed to a five-year, $15-million deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Zhamnov, a restricted free agent acquired in an Aug. 16 trade that sent Jeremy Roenick to Phoenix, had been seeking $4.5 million a year.
“I’m under the impression the kid has accepted the salary part of it and will be in this weekend,” Blackhawk General Manager Bob Pulford told the Chicago Tribune.

George Shinn, the owner of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, reportedly is considering the Norfolk, Va., area as the possible home of an NHL franchise.
