San Clemente 42, Mission Viejo 19--San Clemente quarterback Chris Hayward threw for 204 yards to lead the Tritons to victory in a South Coast League game at Mission Viejo.
Hayward completed 19 of 24 passes, three for touchdowns of 31, 34, and 42 yards. He also scored on a quarterback keeper.
His favorite target was Greg Lang, who had seven receptions for 143 yards and two touchdowns.
Running back Ryan Davis scored on a seven-yard run to opened the scoring at the 6:53 mark of the first quarter.
Davis carried 24 times for 86 yards, scoring twice.
The Tritons improved to 4-3, 1-1 as the Diablos fall to 3-4, 0-2.
The Diablos’ bright spot came when Nick Gilliam made a 52-yard field goal to establish a school record. The previous record of 49 yards was set by Eric Ekdahl against University in 1988.
