SEASON AT A GLANCE: After taking over as starting quarterback midway through last season, Preston has led Westlake with confidence: Westlake reached the Division III semifinals last year and was ranked No. 1 in the division earlier this season. Preston has 2,223 yards passing and 20 touchdowns this year, completing 127 of 223 attempts with nine interceptions to pace the Warriors.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Preston (6 feet, 180 pounds) won a shootout with Newbury Park’s Chris Czernek, completing 21 of 35 passes for 387 yards and three touchdowns in a 32-31 victory. Westlake trailed, 31-24, with 1 minute 14 seconds to play, but Preston completed five consecutive passes, including a 15-yard touchdown to Scott Swaving with 34 seconds left. Preston connected with fullback Kenny Pickard on the two-point conversion.
