Park Service Kills 76 Infected Horses

Seventy-six of the rare wild horses that wander the Outer Banks were put to death by the National Park Service, outraging activists who had tried to save them. The horses, about 40% of what had been a herd of 184 that grazed an area known as the Shackleford Banks, were identified last week as infected with equine infectious anemia, a dangerous blood disease.
