Schools Sue City to Block Term Limits
The Redondo Beach Unified School District has filed a lawsuit against the city of Redondo Beach in an attempt to block a binding ballot measure that would ask voters whether they want to limit school board term limits.
A city charter provision currently limits elected officials to two four-year terms. The Redondo City Council believes this standard should also be applied to board members, but district officials argue that they follow the California Education Code, which exempts them from having to follow the city charter.
The school district sought a preliminary injunction in Torrance Superior Court to prohibit the City Council from placing the measure on the March 4 ballot. A court hearing has been set for Dec. 6.
