Foothill Edges El Modena in Girls’ Soccer

Lauren Wensel capped an impressive Foothill comeback by scoring the winning goal in the final minute on a penalty kick as the Knights beat first-place El Modena, 5-4, in a Century League girls’ soccer game Thursday at Foothill.
The kick was set up after an El Modena player was called for a hand ball.
El Modena (13-7-2, 7-1) led, 3-0, at the half but Foothill (9-6-2, 6-2) tied it when Laura Dooly, Kristi Brittingham and Natasha El-Jurdi scored within 10 minutes of each other early in the second half.
Foothill’s Shannon Harrelson scored with about five minutes left to tie it, 4-4.
In other league games:
Canyon 5, Orange 0--Rochelle Locke scored three goals for visiting Canyon.
Villa Park 3, Santa Ana Valley 0--Christine Mendez, Leah Dawson and Jamie Bowman scored for Villa Park (12-7-1, 4-3-1).
In the Empire League:
Cypress 2, Kennedy 1--Michelle Woiemberghe scored her second goal in the 60th minute to clinch the league title for Cypress (16-3-3, 7-0-1).
El Dorado 8, Loara 0--Amanda Dills scored two goals for visiting El Dorado.
In the Golden West League:
Ocean View 3, Tustin 2--Melissa Pick scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute for Ocean View (5-10-2, 4-2-1). Mary Jo Ramirez and Noel Nimmons also scored for the Seahawks.
Westminster 1, Santa Ana 0--Dianna Jones scored her first goal of the season in the 32nd minute for Westminster (14-4-1, 5-2-1).
Rosary 3, Saddleback 1--Carla Hurst, Laura Fulton and Shauna Rech scored goals for Rosary (10-8-2, 7-0-1).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Aliso Niguel 4, Estancia 1--Michelle Basanda, Jana Mellotti, Kim Scott and Brooke Schwartz scored for host Aliso Niguel (8-8-2, 5-2-1).
University 6, Costa Mesa 0--Kaley Pickett and Amy Buchen each scored two goals for University (9-4-2, 5-2-1).
Laguna Hills 3, Laguna Beach 0--Elizabeth Jones scored in the 10th minute and Stacy Roberts scored two more goals in the first-half for Laguna Hills (15-6-1, 7-0-1), which is seventh-ranked. Sarah Anders had two assists.
In the Sea View League:
Woodbridge 2, Irvine 0--Lauren Schick and Janelle Loudat scored goals for 10th-ranked Woodbridge (12-8-3, 4-3-1).
Santa Margarita 3, El Toro 0--Riki-Ann Serrins had four saves and posted her fifth shutout for Santa Margarita (12-1-3, 6-0-2), which is ranked second in the county.
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 5, San Clemente 0--Kim Abbamonto had two goals and two assists for visiting Capistrano Valley (16-2-3, 6-0-1), top-ranked in the county.
Mater Dei 5, Trabuco Hills 2--Alison Fennell scored three goals for host Mater Dei (14-4, 5-2), ranked fourth in the county.
In the Sunset League:
Esperanza 3, Huntington Beach 0--Shannon Moore assisted on the first two goals on throw-ins for Esperanza (16-4-3, 5-1-2), which is fourth-ranked in the county. Tracy Sharp had six saves and posted her 12th shutout.
Edison 2, Fountain Valley 1 (OT)--With only one minute remaining in overtime, Yvonne Pierson scored the game-winner off of Kim Stempkowski’s assist for host Edison (11-7-2, 5-2-1).
Los Alamitos 3, Marina 1--Cyndi Tredway scored two first-half goals for host Los Alamitos (17-4-2, 7-1), ranked sixth in the county.
In South Coast League girls’ water polo:
Trabuco Hills 16, Dana Hills 9--Ashley Gaebel scored nine goals for Trabuco Hills (5-14, 2-2), which led, 9-4, at the half.
Mission Viejo 8, Capistrano Valley 4--Chelsea Rowlands scored five goals and Jamie Mahkorn made 11 saves for eighth-ranked Mission Viejo (15-5, 4-0).
In Orange League wrestling:
Anaheim 40, Brea Olinda 21--Tim Dye (171) of Anaheim won, 10-4, and Jose Rodriguez followed with a 16-1 victory at 189 pounds as host Anaheim (33-0, 5-0), clinched the league title.
Anival Reyes got a pin at 125 pounds also for Anaheim, which is ranked fourth in Orange County. Brea Olinda (22-4, 4-1) is ranked seventh.
In Pacific Coast League wrestling:
Laguna Hills 62, Costa Mesa 8--Laguna Hills (13-2, 5-0) clinched its 10th consecutive league title with the victory.
