Duck update--Coach Ron Wilson stressed defense during a lengthy practice Friday. “We’ve been making too many mistakes in our own end,” he said. Those blunders have contributed to a three-game losing streak. The Ducks haven’t lost four in a row since a franchise-record, eight-game losing streak in October. Paul Kariya has a goal in four consecutive games. The Ducks have won two in a row against Edmonton, including a 4-2 victory Dec. 1 at the Pond of Anaheim.
Oiler update--Seven years after last winning the Stanley Cup, Edmonton is once again the pride of Canada. The Oilers are the only Canadian team with at least a .500 record. They have won five in a row and are in fourth place in the Western Conference. Calgary Coach Pierre Page called Edmonton a Stanley Cup contender after the Oilers’ 5-2 victory over the Flames on Wednesday.
