Moorpark Should Build Truck Plaza
I work in construction trucking, and for the last 20 years, I have been building Moorpark, its houses, schools, roads and restaurants.
I realize trucks are a nuisance, but Highway 118 is a state highway, and without it, truckers face 11 miles of grade up and down the 101 Freeway. But truckers find themselves harassed in Moorpark when they stop for a quick bite on Los Angeles Avenue. Or, they find the city trying to inspect every truck just so it can write a ticket for the city coffers.
If Moorpark officials had any sense, they would build a truck plaza behind Arco and make lots of money off all those hard-working long-haul drivers “passing through” by selling them fuel, parking and food. There could also be a certified scale, which we truckers also need.
The land behind Arco is perfect, as it was used for a paint shop and a processing plant before. It would be easy and practical. And Moorpark could make a fortune off these truckers.
Go ahead, Moorpark, do the smart thing here and realize truckers are people too. They need a place to stop and spend their money.
10-4, good buddy.
