LANCASTER — Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 38-year-old Lancaster woman and charged her with the murder of her mentally retarded 9-year-old son, who died in a fire Feb. 3, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.
Catherine Fimbres was arrested Thursday, deputies said. She was accused of allowing her son Luis, who had Down syndrome, to perish in a fire in their mobile home in the 45100 block of East 25th Street, deputies said.
In addition to Catherine Fimbres, the boy’s father and three siblings survived the fire that authorities believe was accidentally started by Luis, deputies said.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives would not reveal any other details of their accusation against Fimbres.
She was being held without bail at the Lancaster sheriff’s station.
