Funds Approved for Rose Avenue Bridge Paving the way for the work to begin on expanding the Rose Avenue bridge, the City Council has unanimously approved funding for the project.
The council’s action Tuesday night allows city staff to begin the construction bidding process.
The bridge, which will be expanded from two to seven lanes, is estimated to cost $16.6 million.
Businesses and landowners in the assessment district that surrounds the bridge will be asked to pay nearly 62% of the construction costs while the city will foot the remainder of the bill.
In the past, residents have complained that the existing two-lane overpass that leads to the Shopping at the Rose complex is too small, causing bottlenecks and presenting a danger for children crossing it.
