Montclair Prep to Join League Under Proposal

The long wait is almost over for Montclair Prep.

The Mounties, who were kicked out of the Alpha League in 1992 after being placed on probation by the Southern Section, will join the Delphic League in 1998 under a proposal by officials from the Southern Section Small Schools area Wednesday.

“We’re just happy to be in a league,” Montclair Prep Athletic Director Greg Reece said. “It still wasn’t easy. At least we’re going to play schools who are close to us.”

Cerritos Valley Christian Principal Scott Sandie will present the proposal later this month to the Southern Section. Schools have a chance to appeal before the releaguing plan is finalized in May.

Montclair Prep has been a freelance team since the expulsion, creating scheduling problems for the football team.

The Delphic League does not compete in football, but Reece said the Mounties will be placed in a separate league for football. The Santa Fe League is most likely.
