Galaxy Will Play in Charity Game

The Galaxy of Major League Soccer will play El Salvador’s FAS at 8 p.m. March 22 at Santa Ana Stadium in a match to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

It is the last preseason game for the Galaxy, which plays the Zodiac, its A-League affiliate, Saturday at Santa Ana Stadium. FAS is El Salvador’s national team. Galaxy player Mauricio Singuegos will be playing for his home country of El Salvador.

Former Saddleback College football Coach Ken Swearingen, the winningest coach in community college history, will be inducted into the California Community College Football Coaches Assn. Hall of Fame on March 22 in San Ramon.

In his 33 years of coaching, Swearingen posted 247 victories. Second on the all-time list is Al Baldock, who retired last season after 31 years and 239 victories.

The UC Irvine men’s soccer team will play the United States’ under-20 team at 7 tonight in Anteater Stadium.

Irvine midfielder Mike Mucino is a member of the under-20 team.

The U.S. Diving Western Regional Championships will be Saturday and Sunday at the Mission Viejo Aquatics Center. Junior competitors, ranging in age from 10 to 19, who place within the top six in each event will advance to the Western National Championships April 125 in Nebraska.
