GIRLS’ BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Santa Rosa Rincon Valley Christian 53, El Cajon Christian 38--Point-guard Erin Buescher had 25 points, 25 rebounds to lead Rincon Valley Christian (29-4) in the Division V final.

Buescher, a 6-foot-2 senior who has signed with UC Santa Barbara, also had four blocks, three steals and three assists and 13 turnovers as she physically dominated a smaller El Cajon Christian team. Her 25 rebounds easily broke the record for rebounds in a Division V title game by 10.

Rincon’s state title was its first. El Cajon Christian (29-2), which was outrebounded by 19 and shot 24% from the field, has been to the state finals six times and won twice, in 1992 and ’95.

El Cajon Christian’s Alyssa Fredrick, a 6-3 center, scored 17 points but made only seven of 23 shots.
