110 Students Take Leadership Retreat

More than 110 Valencia High School students got a chance to hone their leadership skills and fit in some snorkeling during the school’s annual leadership retreat on Santa Catalina Island.
For the past 18 years, the school has invited students on a weekend getaway to learn about leadership, teamwork and ethics, Dean of Students Lynn Parish said.
Parish said students who show leadership potential are nominated by their teachers to attend.
The retreat “fosters that potential and gives them information so they can come back and use their leadership skills in the community, school, their job and every other aspect of their life,” she said. “It’s really nice to have the whole weekend to do it, because most schools try to do it in one day.”
