Poulson, Williams Earn Win for UCLA

Alleah Poulson’s two-run single in the eighth inning provided the offense, and Christa Williams pitched a two-hitter as UCLA defeated Fresno State, 2-0, Thursday at the NCAA women’s softball World Series at Oklahoma City.
Poulson’s single came off Amanda Scott (18-4), and enabled the Bruins (46-12) to beat the Bulldogs (52-13) for the first time in three tries this season.
Nicole Ochoa and Christie Ambrosi scored on the hit.
Freshman pitcher Williams (18-6) gave up singles to Fresno State’s Trina Puckett in the fifth and eighth innings.
The Bruins advanced to a winner’s bracket game against defending national champion Arizona, which beat Massachusetts, 2-1.
In other games:
Brandi Macias’ run-scoring single in the seventh inning gave Iowa (52-7) a 3-2 victory over Michigan (55-15-1); and Jamie Graves pitched a five-hitter to lead Washington (49-17) to a 6-0 victory over South Carolina (63-4).
