Campbell Hall Aces Out Cate, 11-7

Campbell Hall High used outstanding performances by its top singles player and doubles team to down Cate, 11-7, in a Southern Section Division IV second-round boys’ tennis match at the Studio City Racquet Centre on Thursday.
Adam Zunder swept at No. 1 singles for the Vikings (18-0), as did the No. 1 doubles pairing of Josh Glass and James Chun. Zunder is 42-3 this season, while Glass and Chun are 52-1.
Third-ranked Campbell Hall plays Santa Maria St. Joseph’s on Tuesday in a quarterfinal match at a site to be determined. It is the first time the Vikings have advanced past the second round in 14 years under Coach Steve Kuechel.
Glendale 9, Rio Mesa 9--Philip Yim--playing at No. 2 singles for the Dynamiters (20-0)--defeated Tyrel Carson, 6-3, in the final set to tie the Division I second-round match at Rio Mesa (17-3) and give Glendlae a victory on games, 82-71.
Ji Chung, the No. 1 singles player, is 60-0 for the Dynamiters with a three-set sweep, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0. Yim did not lose a game in his other two sets.
Burbank 14, La Mirada 4--Seniors Scott Anderson and Anthony Knight were 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 victors playing No. 1 doubles in a Division II match for the host Bulldogs (16-4)--who have not lost a doubles set in the playoffs.
Burbank will face Santa Barbara in the semifinals.
Westlake 13, Calabasas 5--The doubles teams of Mike Horak-Joey Schimmel, Garrett Wong-Nambi Zahrabi and Brad Wong-Albert Kim won seven of nine sets for the Warriors (20-0) in a Division III match at Westlake.
Nick Weis swept, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles for the Coyotes.
Pasadena Poly 14, Oak Park 4--Joey Edelberg managed two victories at No. 1 singles, but the Eagles (12-7) were no match for the second-seeded Panthers in a Division IV match at Pasadena Poly.
Oak Park, which advanced to the second round for the first time in the program’s history, also got victories from the doubles teams of Josh Rattray and Raymond Sun and Ryan Bushore and Brian Guerrero. Edelberg finished the season 25-2.
