Rising Revenue Going to Community Groups

Community groups seeking money from the city will make their requests today when the City Council begins budget talks for fiscal 1997-98.

Because revenue is projected to increase 5.1%, or $545,000, city officials said they likely will have money for new programs or to expand existing ones.

The rise in revenue is because of an increase in sales tax collections as new businesses have opened and retail sales have picked up, city officials said. Income from property taxes, franchise and motor vehicle licensing and business permits is also projected to rise.

The July 1 consolidation of the Capistrano Valley Water District into city operations will also save money, officials said.

Residents may comment on the 1997-98 budget and seven-year capital improvement plan at public hearings June 17 and July 1.

Today’s meeting will start at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto. Information: (714) 493-1171.
