State Senate Delays Hearing on Appointee to Air Quality Board

SACRAMENTO — A Senate confirmation hearing for Cody G. Cluff, a member of the governing board of the Southern California Air Quality Management District, was postponed Monday for one week.
The hearing of the Rules Committee, which had been expected to reject Cluff, an entertainment industry executive, was delayed because Sen. Ruben Ayala (D-Chino) was ill with the flu.
Last week, Senate President Pro Tem Bill Lockyer (D-Hayward) said the three Democrats on the five-member committee would vote against Cluff, an appointee of Gov. Pete Wilson, because they believe he is not qualified and because he opposes rehiring James M. Lents, the district’s veteran executive officer.
