GORMAN — A 47-year-old man was in custody Monday after telling Tulare County sheriff’s deputies that he shot and killed an acquaintance, then dumped the body along a road in the mountains north of Santa Clarita, authorities said.
Arrested on suspicion of murder was Richard Richards, whose town of residence was not available, after information he provided led Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies to the body of Curtis Clark, 44, in Gorman.
Clark was shot several times, Deputy Carrie Stuart said.
Richards told deputies he argued with Clark before the shooting and then dropped the body at the side of a road near Gorman about 6 a.m. Sunday, Stuart said. He then drove to Porterville, where he went to a sheriff’s station and told deputies what he had done, she said.
Contacted by Tulare County authorities, deputies from the Santa Clarita sheriff’s station went to Interstate 5 and Frazier Mountain Road and discovered the body.
Richards, whose relationship to Clark was unclear, was being held without bail at the Santa Clarita station jail. He was due to be arraigned today at the Newhall Municipal Courthouse.
