Sports Hall Seeks Angel Ticket Deal

The Orange County Sports Hall of Fame, forced to close to the general public because of renovations at Anaheim Stadium, is attempting to forge a ticket deal with the Angels, Director Don Steele said.

Steele said he has made a proposal, which he hopes will attract visitors, similar to one two years ago, before the Angels were purchased by the Walt Disney Co.

“For $35 you got four tickets, a program, four hot dogs, four drinks and [tickets] to the Hall of Fame,”’ Steele said. “We would receive $2 out of that. We got a quite a bit of traffic from that deal.”

Angel spokesman Bill Robertson said the team are still evaluating the proposal.

The Hall of Fame closed to the public at the end of April, but is open for private parties and special events. The Angels use the Hall of Fame for group receptions before games and then reimburse Hall of Fame officials.

“The fact we are on the fringe of the construction made for very poor traffic flow,” Steele said. “We didn’t realize where the construction area would be until the Freeway Series.

“We went through the Freeway Series with very low guest response and it didn’t pick up the first month of the season. Our intent was to remain open, but having volunteers standing there for four or five hours with no one coming in doesn’t serve a purpose.”
