‘Europride’ Parade Presses for Gay Rights

Tens of thousands of homosexuals from all over Europe marched through Paris in a “Europride” parade to demand equal recognition for same-sex couples. Organizers said 300,000 people walked the three-mile route to the site of an all-night concert. Police said at least 120,000 took part. Socialist Justice Minister Elisabeth Guigou said earlier this week that France’s newly elected left-wing government would deliver on its pledge for a “contract of social union” granting legal status to gay and lesbian couples.
