Freeway’s Future: 20 Minutes to Go 5 Miles
- Share via
It now takes about 15 minutes to drive five miles during rush hour on parts of the Garden Grove Freeway between the San Diego and Costa Mesa freeways. By 2020, that drive will take 20 minutes if changes are not made to improve traffic flow, according to freeway planners.
But before transportation officials alter the freeway that runs through a half-dozen cities, they are asking for public input.
Today, the Orange County Transportation Authority and Caltrans will host a meeting at the Garden Grove Community Center, Room A, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The center is at 11300 Stanford Ave.
Other meetings are planned for Wednesday at OCTA offices in Orange and Thursday at the Los Alamitos Community Center.
Preliminary proposals include expanding the number of freeway lanes and adding carpool lanes, OCTA spokeswoman Ileana Lopez said.
