UCI Chancellor to Get Jewish Fund Award

The Jewish National Fund of Orange County/ Long Beach will present its Tree of Life Award to UCI Chancellor Laurel L. Wilkening on Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Irvine.

Jeane J. Kirkpatrick, former Cabinet member, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and National Security Council member, will be the keynote speaker. Jack W. Peltason, president emeritus of the University of California, will serve as honorary chairman.

Henry Segerstrom and Michael L. Meyer, who serve as co-chairs of this year’s ceremony, were previous recipients of the award, which has honored prominent government officials, religious leaders, heads of major corporations and leading professionals.

Wilkening, who became UCI’s third chancellor in July 1993, recently announced she is leaving her post by June 30 to pursue personal projects.
