A Long Beach fisherman spotted the body of an 81-year-old man in the water near a popular waterfront restaurant, authorities said Monday.
The body of James Chabot was discovered face down in the water about 7 a.m Sunday near Parker’s Lighthouse Restaurant and Shoreline Village Drive, said police spokeswoman Karen Kerr Owen.
Chabot had wandered away from the retirement home he had recently moved into about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and police were notified that he was missing, said Ron Welch, administrator of Cerritos Manor at 1046 E. Fourth St.
The corner’s office has scheduled an autopsy.
