Maker of Gifford Clothes Arraigned

A sewing shop owner was arraigned in criminal court on charges of failing to pay 100 immigrant garment workers more than $300,000 in wages while making clothes for the Kathie Lee Gifford label. Lai Fong Yuen, 36, was also charged with 13 counts of failing to pay workers the minimum wage. Yuen may face up to one year in prison if convicted. According to Atty. Gen. Dennis Vacco, workers were forced to work 60 to 80 hours a week at three of Yuen’s shops.
