Saturday was an impressive day for the basketball programs at Orange Coast College.
The men’s team--playing at home--beat Long Beach, 85-75, in the title game of the Kiwanis tournament. Shaun Jackson had 32 points in the title game and won the tournament’s most valuable player award.
At about the same time up north, the women’s team took first in the Cuesta tournament. Jennifer Ludwicki, who scored 88 points in the three games, was selected as the MVP.

Wrestling: Adam Gilbert of Cypress and Fernando Serratos of Golden West were the top local finishers at the state wrestling tournament Saturday at West Valley College in Saratoga.
Gilbert was third in the 190-pound class and Serratos was third at 118. Serratos’ only loss was the eventual state champion Dave Leonard of Sierra.

Dumped: The Golden West women’s volleyball team stole a tradition from football and dumped a large container of water down the back of Coach Albert Gasparian Sunday after the team won its fifth consecutive state title Sunday with a three-game sweep of El Camino at Concordia.
Of course, the Concordia officials weren’t so thrilled as they quickly grabbed towels and a mop to dry the gym floor.
“They can dump whatever they want on me after the way we played,” Gasparian said.
