Spotlight: Santa Clara to Vote on Sun Microsystems Project

Santa Clara voters will decide whether Sun Microsystems should build a $230-million research-development complex on 82 acres of the former Agnews State Hospital site, which includes historic buildings. The county registrar said opponents have gathered enough signatures to put the issue on the ballot, possibly as early as April. The measure seeks to reverse the City Council’s approval of the plan. “We would like this project to be supported by the public before we put a shovel into the ground,” Sun said.
