Boy’s Recovery From Injuries Is Celebrated

There were no gifts for Eric Lopez last Christmas as the 10-year-old boy lay near death after being hit by a car while riding his bike on a City Terrace street.
Eric was not expected to live, but he survived. On Tuesday at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollenbeck Division, he had more gifts than ever as family, friends, hospital workers and police celebrated his recovery.
“He is doing really well and his spirits are great,” said Alicia Gonzalez of White Memorial Medical Center, where Eric was treated. He now walks with the aid of a walker and has returned to public school.
The story of his recovery is included in White Memorial’s Christmas card this year.
