More than 500 volunteers are expected to participate in the fourth annual “Tikkun L.A.,” an event organized by the Jewish Federation to distribute food and gifts at 30 sites on Christmas.
Tikkun means “repair” in Hebrew, co-chairwoman Monique Maas Gibbons said.
“Part of being Jewish is being responsible for your community, Jews and non-Jews alike,” Gibbons said.
Volunteers will gather at the Westside Pavilion at 11:30 a.m. for their assignments, which include distributing packages to veterans, the homeless, battered women and troubled youths as well as to city employees who work on Christmas, such as 911 operators and jail guards, federation spokeswoman Bonnie Somers said.
The event will conclude at 3 p.m. with a free concert by the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony in the Terrace Food Court of the mall, followed by a Hanukkah candle-lighting.
